Storage Tips

Airtight Containers

To keep your homemade fajita seasoning fresh and flavourful, it is important to store it in an airtight container. This will prevent moisture from getting in and spoiling the spices. A glass jar with a tight-fitting lid or a resealable plastic bag are both good options.

Make sure to label your container with the date and contents, so you can keep track of how long it has been stored and what is inside. This will help you avoid confusion and ensure that you are using the seasoning while it is still fresh.

Shelf Life

Homemade fajita seasoning can last for up to 6 months if stored properly in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. However, it is best to use it within 3-4 months to ensure maximum flavour and potency.

If you notice any changes in colour, texture or smell, it may be time to replace your seasoning. Old or spoiled seasoning can have a negative impact on the taste of your dishes, so it is important to check it regularly and replace it when necessary.

By following these simple storage tips, you can ensure that your homemade fajita seasoning stays fresh and delicious for as long as possible.

Ways to Use

Marinades

You can use the homemade fajita seasoning to create a delicious marinade for your meat. Simply mix the seasoning with some olive oil and lime juice, and marinate your chicken or beef for at least an hour before grilling. The result will be a juicy, flavourful meat that is perfect for tacos or fajitas.

Vegetable Seasoning

The fajita seasoning is not just for meat – it can also be used to season your vegetables. Sprinkle some of the seasoning on your peppers, onions, and mushrooms before grilling or sautéing for a delicious and healthy side dish. You can also use it to season roasted vegetables for a tasty and easy meal.

Grill Enhancements

The fajita seasoning can be used to enhance the flavour of your grilled meats. Sprinkle some on your steak, chicken, or pork chops before grilling for a delicious and flavourful crust. You can also use it to season your burgers for a unique twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 tbs. paprika
  • 2 tbs. salt
  • 2 tbs. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. cayenne
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. thyme

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients together and mix well.

  • Store in airtight container.

Notes

To use: Dry 1 pound of chicken breasts then toss in a little olive oil. Sprinkle a few tablespoons in your mix over the chicken. Grill or fry up in a skillet. You could even put the chicken breasts into the crockpot, skip the olive oil, and sprinkle the mix on top.

This makes about 1/2 cup. I often quadruple this recipe and store it in a pint sized mason jar. 2 heaping tablespoons is equivalent to 1 store-bought package.
