What Is Pork Belly?

Pork belly is a cut of pork that comes from the belly of the pig. This cut has layers of fat and meat. It is fatty and boneless, sold whole or in strips in the market. Because of its unique qualities, it’s roasted, braised, seared, or smoked.

This cut of pork is more or less the same as bacon, but unlike bacon, it is not cured, not smoked, and pork belly slices are thick.

Tips For Making Best Pork Belly Bites

  • Before cooking, get the pork to room temperature before cooking.
  • Don’t overcook the pork, the internal temperature should be 145°. Use the digital meat thermometer to check this.
  • Cut the pork meat pieces into regular even sizes. At the same time, do not make them small. The small sizes will reduce as the fat melts out of the pork while cooking.
  • There is no need of adding oil to the pan, as the pork belly pieces will melt out the fat.
  • Once the pork bites are cooked, discard the excess fat in the pan.
  • If possible try using the splatter screen while frying. It avoids the hot splashes of fat on the stovetop
  • A cast-iron skillet is the best, gets fried pork cubes browned properly

Which Pork Type Is Used For This Recipe

For the Pork bites recipe, I have used pork belly, a slice of thick uncured bacon. You can also use a bacon slab that is cured and seasoned.

For the same recipe, boneless pork chops, boneless pork ribs, pork chops, and pork tenderloin can be used by cutting them into medium-sized cubes.

What To Do With The Leftovers

The leftover sticky garlic pork bites can be stored in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. And reheated on the stovetop or gently reheated in the microwave before serving. Also can be kept in a zipped bag in the freezer for at least 2 months
